Originally part of the London based network of Actors Centres, The Actors Centre in Newcastle became an independent organisation ten years ago.
Since its re-launch, the Centre has striven to provide a focus for the region’s professional performers, where they can develop and enhance their skills. Although the North-East has produced many fine actors over the years, and the level of activity in both theatre and media has been considerable, the majority of the region’s actors have not been trained in the formal sense. In an industry which is changing as fast as today’s entertainment industry it is essential that the skills of performers are constantly upgraded, to better serve the requirements of broadcasters and theatre producers.
The role of The Actors Centre North-East is crucial in this.
It is the only place in the region where professional performers have regular access to workshops and classes with the sort of teachers and workshop leaders who can truly reflect this up-to-the-minute requirement that future employers have. The Actors Centre is a social focus for many performers, is furthermore a point of contact for producers to reach widely amongst the regions actors, and the membership files are available to any producers or directors who wish to find a wide range of experienced professionals living in the locality.
Based in the Newcastle Arts Centre, The Actors Centre North-East is capable of providing an invaluable service to producers in all media, as well as ensuring that the regions performers are capable of fulfilling their requirements. As an organization existing to support professional actors and performers in their endeavours to find employment, we offer a full range of services, including subsidized photocopying, fax facilities, networking , advice and practical help on CV compilation, access to the internet, reference / play library and the opportunity to hone your skills in a supportive environment.
